The cross-platform and open-source Angry IP Scanner does precisely what its name suggests: it is a network scanner that will quickly scan IPs and ports. It pings all the IP addresses in a range or all the IP addresses in a list to see which are alive. It also provides info such as hostname, MAC Adress, ports, and more.

You can enjoy the functionality Angry IP Scanner has to offer anywhere you go, on any system that has Java on it. The application does not need to be installed. To get started with Angry IP Scanner, you need only download a small executable (a 1.2MB one to be more precise) and run it. Angry IP Scanner will launch when you do so and you will be able to start using it.

The upper part of Angry IP Scanner interface displays options for selecting how to perform a scan, for accessing the Preferences menu, and more. Underneath this section there’s a pane that presents the results of the scan.

To help you easily get accustomed to what it has to offer, the application presents you with a Getting Started guide when you first run it. This guide explains that Angry IP Scanner is an address scanner tool that can be used to scan IP addresses with the aim of finding live hosts and gathering info about said hosts. The application can scan a certain IP range as well as the IP addresses included in a list that you provide. The Getting Started guide also provides a bit of info on the terminology used by the application and on the process of pinging.

As mentioned above, Angry IP Scanner is free and open-source. Use it on your PC for as long as you want for free.

Angry IP Scanner is free, cross-platform, and does its job quickly. I don't see what's not to like about it.

Pros

Angry IP Scanner is open-source and cross-platform. It will quickly scan a range or list of IPs, check for live hosts, and gather info about them. Angry IP Scanner does not have to be installed.

Cons

None that I could think of.
